Welcome to the Infrared Spectroscopy Department.

Tony TaylorWelcome to the Infra Red Channel. In the world of analytical chemistry, the techniques of chromatography, mass spectrometry and the broad range of techniques which come under the banner of Spectrsoscopy, all form part of the qualitative and quantitative investigational armoury.

It was due to ‘popular demand’ that we began with the well-established but highly powerful technique of Infrared spectroscopy and of course it’s a technique that is found in most analytical laboratories. The fact that it is a well-established technique means that the instrumentation is now very straightforward to use, with ATR being testament to this, and even interpretation of spectra has become somewhat automated, with library searching of spectra being common place.

This is where CHROMacademy comes into its own, and helps end users to understand the nature and theory of the analytical techniques which are now approaching what I have described as ‘industrialised’ – highly generic and process driven. This is great for high throughput usage, however not so great when figuring out what happened when things go wrong, or when wants to adapt or improve what the instruments are capable of.

So, whatever your reason for coming to learn more about the spectroscopic techniques, I hope that you find what you came for. If you didn’t let us know, and we will endeavour to bring it to you.
