Detectors, Basic Column & System Care & Maintenance & Quantitative and Qualitative HPLC

This course has been designed for novice HPLC users and those who have some experience of running HPLC methods.  Although the main focus will be on the fundamental theory of HPLC we will discuss slightly more advanced topics in order to allow you to progress easily to the next, more advanced stage in your HPLC training.

This course will detail the fundamental aspects that are required to fully understand HPLC.  We will focus on the theory of HPLC and the fundamental mechanisms that result in chromatographic separation.  We will give you a practical insight into the decisions that are required to design robust mobile phases and to select the correct column for your application.  Each part of the HPLC instrument will also be discussed, allowing for a better understanding of how the equipment works which in turn will aid in day to day troubleshooting.

The material covered in this course includes:
Chromatographic parameters, reversed phase HPLC, HPLC columns, gradient elution and HPLC instrumentation including mobile phase considerations, solvent pumping systems, autosamplers and detectors. We will also discuss some basic column and system care and maintenance.

Each video session is accompanied by supporting modules from CHROMacademy and we will use the animations within CHROMacademy to clearly illustrate the science and processes that are being discussed.  All four sessions should be completed in order to gain the full training.  The final assessment must be completed in order to gain your certificate of completion.

Course Delivery & Duration

  • 4 video sessions each session is between 1- 2 hours long
  • Tutor supported with access to our chromatography experts
  • Supporting training material
  • Course assessment with certificate

Our CHROMacademy tutors will deliver four video training sessions over a four week period with all sessions made available on-demand after their release until the course end date.

It's important you register before the course start date! To gain a certificate of completion you must complete a final assessment before the course end date - this is typically seven weeks after we release session one.

Don't worry if you miss a session you can always catch up at anytime within the seven weeks period, however we strongly suggest that you keep up to date with the sessions as they are broadcast.

Who should take this course

Anyone who is new to HPLC or those wishing to understand more about the practicalities of HPLC analysis. This course delivers a full introduction to the subject and takes knowledge and understanding to a level which will make a real difference in your working life! You will be able to understand method variables and understand separation mechanisms and HPLC column choice as well as gaining an increased awareness of issues with separations.
